The number AS/NZS 1754 is the global standards number for the combined Australian / New Zealand standard for Car Restraints.
This Standard/Document states all requirements regarding labeling, design, structure, wording etc. that all Car Restraint Manufacturers must follow and meet/pass (for each models of car restraint) to be able to mass produce Car Restraints for sale within Australia and New Zealand.
Sometimes at the end of this number you might see a colon followed by a year e.g. AS/NZS 1754:2010 , this tells you which version of the standard the restraint was approved and manufactured to.
The current version of the standard is AS/NZS 1754:2013, but this does not make restraints with older versions unusable, only that there were different requirements when they were manufactured. However, we only recommend that a product be used for 10years, http://infasecure.com.au/blog/changes-to-product-lifespans/ .
It is illegal in Australia, for restraints manufactured to other international car restraint standards to be used, e.g. ECE R44/04, CMVSS etc. Never use a restraint if you are unable to locate it's Australian/New Zealand standards sticker.
